If you frequently have reason to be outdoors in the cold weather, there are several things to keep in mind. For starters, in the worst case scenario, cold can kill you. You could lose a toe, a foot, or even a whole leg if hypothermia manages to set in to your body. Hypothermia is when your body part/s freeze beyond repair. So at all times, keep this in mind when going into the cold weather for periods of time that may allow you to become ill from hypothermia.

Of course, you won’t die of hypothermia if you are only going for a walk in the woods to collect some kindling, but all the same, it is best to stay warm. When you are warm, you can think better, you can move better, your reaction times are better and you are less likely to lose a footing by way of being stiff and cold and sore. When you are warm, your muscles can work better. If you did need to run, for whatever reason, or climb, you wouldn’t want to do it while being freezily cold.

Thermal underwear for winter is an ideal solution to potentially getting too cold. It traps your own body heat in on your skin while allowing your skin to breathe. This is a necessary quality for an article of clothing that sits next to your skin, so when you are looking for a thermals set, make sure that you look into the options for natural fibres. Natural fibres are far superior to sunthetics, no matter what the makers of synthetics will tell you. Nature always does it best. Wool and silk make natural fibres than can wick away moisture from the skin. These are going to be better than cotton thermals, because cotton tends to hold moisture within its structure and it may end up making you even colder, especially if you stop moving and sit down or stay still for a length of time. Thermals can keep you warm in the great outdoors.

While choosing the sleeping bag, it is important to consider the type of insulation fill. Sleeping bags are usually prepared with down fill or synthetic fill. All these types have both advantages as well as disadvantages. However, it is advisable to choose the down filled one.

The reason and the benefits of down sleeping bags are discussed below.

The weight:

When climbing, both your backpack weight and its content’s weight is crucial one. If you carry a lot, no doubt, you will be tired out soon and will require a break. The down sleeping bag could help you by making your pack weigh lighter.

Warmer than the Synthetic filled:

The weight of the synthetic fills cannot match the down fills to warmth proportion. Down filled bags catches lots of air and performs as a superior insulator than all other. The warm sleeping bag is an essential one during your camping in cold. Definitely, everyone expects the composed sleep during night.

The compactness:

While choosing camping gear, the pack space will be the key factor. The down sleeping bag would squeeze more to adopt fewer backpack room than the synthetic filled. This gives you more space for all other things like additional clothes and food.

Even though down sleeping bags are having many advantages, there are some disadvantages also like the flexibility and price.

During moisture conditions, down sleeping bags may be a wrong choice. Because, the wet down sleeping bag become extremely dense, and providing small insulation. To avoid this issue and for making your rainy camping comfortable, choose the down bags that are available made with waterproof material.

Another disadvantage is its cost. Down sleeping bags are expensive while compared with the synthetic filled sleeping bags. Of course, for higher quality bag, you are typically paying when you choose the down bag though. Either way picking the right sleeping bag is just as crucial to your camping trip as it is to bring along the right tent or camping chairs. Take your time and do your research and you will have a sleeping bag that will be both comfortable and will last for many years.

OK everyone grab your bug out bag because we got to go!!!! What you don’t have a bug out bag? This is the one thing that everyone should have, and I don’t mean a half empty backpack that you have to empty out before you can use. A bug out bag is essential for survival in any emergency situation or natural disaster.

Do I need to remind you of all those people in New Orleans during Katrina who only had the clothes on their backs. Could you even imagine how much easier their lives would have been if the had spent a few hours creating a bug out bag that they could have grabbed out of the closet and hit the road with. They could have had clean dry clothes to change into, plenty of food and some water to get them through the first few days!

I would urge everyone out there to make a bug out bag because you never know when you will need it! Another thing I would consider is making one for every member of your family even your kids. They can carry a few things too, and don’t forget to put something in there fun for them to do like a coloring book. It will help them pass the time and take their minds off the situation.

If you don’t know how or what to put in a bug out bag then I would suggest getting a book like “The Bug Out Book” it will teach you everything you need to know about making a bug out bag. It doesn’t cost very much, only $9 and also comes free of charge with the “USMC Winter Survival Course Guide Book” and the “Breath Mint Tin Survival Kit How-to” If you want to get a copy of “The Bug Out Book” you can by Clicking Here!

These books will get you on the right track, and take away any worries of not being prepared when the worst happens. Now get out there and start building your bag!

This little emergency survival stove is a must have for any survival or disaster kit. These hand made little stoves are the perfect size, weighing only 0.4 oz and have no moving parts to break or maintain. It runs on Alcohol (IPA, denatured, rubbing and other alcohols available at hardware and drug stores).

To use the emergency survival stove, you just put in a small amount of alcohol (a few ounces, or enough to cover the base). I use a small mil-spec plastic flask to carry the alcohol. Light the alcohol, which will burn with a nice blue flame. Alcohol burns at temperatures above 750 degrees F! As the stove walls heat up, they begin to vaporize the alcohol internally, and within about one minute, each of the 30 or so holes at the side will start sporting a nice blue flame jet. The effect is like cooking on a gas stove at home. A good size canteen cup of water will boil in minutes and most meals can be cooked with less than 1 oz. of alcohol.

A guy named Mechanic Mike creates these wonderful emergency survival stoves in several different styles with prices ranging from $5 to $20. If you would like to get your own emergency survival stove then check out Mechanic Mike’s Ebay store at the following link: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Thru-Hikers-Closet-and-More
