If you frequently have reason to be outdoors in the cold weather, there are several things to keep in mind. For starters, in the worst case scenario, cold can kill you. You could lose a toe, a foot, or even a whole leg if hypothermia manages to set in to your body. Hypothermia is when your body part/s freeze beyond repair. So at all times, keep this in mind when going into the cold weather for periods of time that may allow you to become ill from hypothermia.

Of course, you won’t die of hypothermia if you are only going for a walk in the woods to collect some kindling, but all the same, it is best to stay warm. When you are warm, you can think better, you can move better, your reaction times are better and you are less likely to lose a footing by way of being stiff and cold and sore. When you are warm, your muscles can work better. If you did need to run, for whatever reason, or climb, you wouldn’t want to do it while being freezily cold.

Thermal underwear for winter is an ideal solution to potentially getting too cold. It traps your own body heat in on your skin while allowing your skin to breathe. This is a necessary quality for an article of clothing that sits next to your skin, so when you are looking for a thermals set, make sure that you look into the options for natural fibres. Natural fibres are far superior to sunthetics, no matter what the makers of synthetics will tell you. Nature always does it best. Wool and silk make natural fibres than can wick away moisture from the skin. These are going to be better than cotton thermals, because cotton tends to hold moisture within its structure and it may end up making you even colder, especially if you stop moving and sit down or stay still for a length of time. Thermals can keep you warm in the great outdoors.

For most campers the most important element of camping is the tent. A tent allows people to get in from extreme temperatures and weather such as rain. It also gives you a place with some privacy. But how do you know which tent is right for you? There are so many different options.

1st, When selecting cheap tents you can’t simply look at a price and if it’s low enough say “great” and buy it. You need to understand if the tent is going to fit your needs and protect you from the great outdoors.

Some of the most important factors are:

Ventilation: You don’t want a tent that is poorly ventilated. It will trap all of the hot air right back in the tent with you creating a miserable night. It’s important that the tent has more than one vent and can thoroughly help circulate the air into the tent.

Rain Fly: Make sure your tent includes a rain fly and a good one at that. A flimsy rain fly that will barely cover your tent isn’t much better than not having one all. A good rainfly will covere your tent and a little area around your tent so that you don’t have to worry about the ground immediately outside of your tent being muddy.

Seams Sealed: It doesn’t matter whether or not the tent company that designed the tent seals it or if you seal it later, it just needs to be made sure that it is done. It’s really inportant that the seams are sealed and if they are not you can fix this up with duct tape. You don’t want to have to worry about leaks or holes getting in your tent.

3 season tent or 4 season tent ? There is also the debate over 4 season tents and 3 season tents and which you actually need. For the majority of campers a 3 season tent should be plenty sufficient. They are made to withstand most of the temperatures and climates that come their way. However, if you know that you will be doing winter camping as well a 4 season tent is essential to keep you from the extreme weather. They are built better and last longer because they are being designed to go up against such harsh conditions.

You are also going to want to consider what size tent you want. Do you want a large tent or just room for yourself? Do you need a 2 man, 4 man or 6 man tent or one that fits even more. Are you bringing a lot of stuff that has to fit in the tent with you and how long and far do you have to carry it. Will the weight of the tent be too much to carry if you are hiking a long distance. If you are going to be hiking a long distance you probably don’t want a 40 pound tent coming along with you.

So when you are comparing cheap tents make sure that you don’t let the price be the only factor of whether or not you buy the tents.

Jayco is a full line manufacturer of RVs based in Middlebury, Indiana. They sell high quality RVs at a reasonable price. Jayco tent trailers currently are manufactured in 3 different models ranging in price from $7,857 to $18,214 and lengths ranging from 11′ 9″ to 18′ 2″. These measurements are the “traveling length” meaning the length as they are pulled down the road behind a vehicle. Once you arrive at a campsite these trailers have a bed on each end that is folded out with a canvas cover over it with mesh and plastic windows, hence the name “tent” trailer. It basically looks like a tent put on top of a small trailer.

These types of RVs are very useful for the small family that only owns a sedan or possibly a minivan. These vehicles are perfectly capable of pulling the small amount of weight these campers possess. Most usually they do not require stabilizing bars or special hitches to pull and when folded down while being towed they do not hinder visibility to the driver.

Tent trailers are a big improvement over standard tents. For starters, you are up off the ground which means no more waking up to damp bedding if it happens to rain during the night. They also come with mattresses in the fold out beds. While these are nothing like what you have on your bed at home, they are infinitely more comfortable than a sleeping bag on the ground. Larger camping trailers can also come equipped with most of the amenities found in full size rvs such as sinks, refrigerators, showers, and toilets. They are not meant to provide all the comforts of home but a small family on the go and spending most of their vacation outdoors will find them most useful for sleeping and as a base camp for their adventures.

Sometimes you’re lucky and have a few packs of freeze dried food left in your survival kit when you get into trouble. Of course, it’s not going to be as delicious as one of your favorite baked salmon recipes, or a nice grilled salmon steak on your BBQ, but they will get you by.

Some of this food is actually pretty good these days. I remember years ago if someone told you to bring along some freeze dried food you figured you would rather scrape some pine needles into a pot of boiling water than eat that stuff. But, today most of the freeze dried food is tasty as well as reasonably nourishing. Thanks to substantial advances in quick flash freezing, and increased research related to drying techniques and enzyme decay in foods.

In most cases all you need is some boiling water and a pot to let the mixture sit in for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the recipe. It’s pretty hard to mess up the recipes, even if you have a little too much water or too little.

Some of the more popular brands of freeze dried food include Mountain House, Backpackers Pantry, and Enertia Trail Foods. There are a number of other smaller manufacturers that specialize, but these are the big guys who have a wide selection for everyone.

Mountain House manufacturers and packages a wide variety of dried foods in packet sizes for 2 or more. Some of the more popular foods include Buffalo style chicken, mexican beef, and a lot of very good breakfast entres like Spanish breakfast skillet. The only thing I don’t particularly like are the meals with a lot of meat chunks.

Backpackers Pantry tends to specialize a little more in an organic style of food, although they still have a large selection to cater to everyone. My personal favorites from them include several of their breakfast dishes.

Since freeze dried food is pretty tasty and durable, I always stick a few packs into my survival kit before heading out.

An emergency food kit is an essential part to every family’s emergency preparedness. These kits are filled with meals ready to eat (MRE) that can be prepared with minimal water and provide enough nutrition to keep a family sustained for several days or weeks. Every family needs to have some type of plan in place in case of a major natural disaster or military conflict.

The food kits can be purchased from a variety of places. Online retailers or army surplus stores carry a number of different MREs for sale that are sure to please every diet preference. A family can build their own emergency food supply with the foods, they prefer the most. Foods like dried soups, chili, and a variety of pasta dishes can be found. Special energy bars are available and require little space to store. The bars are packed with calories and vitamins needed to keep the human body functioning properly.

Typically, the foods are freeze dried and only require a minimal amount of water to make into delicious meals. Foods that have been dehydrated are also available. These tend to have less flavor but are just as nutritious. Food kits are designed to use very little water. Potable water is a precious commodity during any disaster and should be used sparingly.

Most emergency foods have a shelf life that lasts up to 25 years. This makes it easy to continuously add to the food storage supply over a period of time. A food kit should be stocked with enough food to feed the entire family for at least three days. Cat and dog food kits are also available.

Emergency disaster preparation is encouraged by the federal government. In cases of widespread disaster, it may take at least three days before any kind of help arrives. Even then, the help may be extremely limited. A person can ensure their family’s well being by stocking an emergency prepared kit that guarantees their family will have plenty of food and water throughout the extent of the situation.

Hunting is a dangerous activity and while there is much coverage of gun safety there is almost no coverage of hunting knife safety. The potential to severely injure yourself with a knife exists anytime you have hunting knives in your proximity. It could be from a slice while using or a fall and an improperly stored hunting knife. Here are a few things you can do to keep yourself safe on the hunt.

Make sure your hunting knife is in proper working order. This means that if it is a fixed blade knife make sure that it is sharp. Injuries happen with dull knives more often then sharp knives. Make sure the handle is properly secured and that the guard is tight. If it is a folding knife make sure that all pivots and locks are working properly. This also means keep your knife clean so that you can do a quick visible check of the blade and the mechanisms to ensure that everything is functioning properly.

Carrying a hunting knife improperly could also lead to injury. If you are carrying a fixed blade knife, it should always be carried in a sheath that holdings it tightly so that it cannot fall out. You should also take care to position the sheath in an area that will cause you catch the knife between your leg and your body. Falling in this fashion could push the knife through the sheath and lead to serious injury.

When using the knife, yes I know this sounds like a mother, but cut away from yourself when possible. I know it is not always possible and when it is not take extra precaution to control the cut. It can also be very helpful to keep your blade and your handle clean during use. This can be harder than it sounds when skinning a large animal. So take your time and learn how to make the cuts in the most efficient manner.

Taking a little bit of extra time and realizing that a knife can be more dangerous than a gun is an important part of learning safety on the hunt. Hunting is a very rewarding way to spend a vacation and can make memories that last a lifetime, so make sure that your fire arms and your hunting knives are used properly.

There is one thing many many servicemen have griped about. These are the taste of military MREs. While MREs haven’t always been a favorite for service men and women, they have gotten better. It’s sometimes hard to eat when you are protecting your country in a foreign land. That is why these come in handy.

These are easy to carry, so service men and women can carry them in their rucksacks. They don’t take up all that much room which is why the military loves them. They have improved the taste and have increased the different things foods that are offered so that there is more of a variety.

So, how do MREs work? What these are exactly are prepackaged dried foods. These are all foods that won’t expire, but can withstand any condition that a soldier might be in. Each one usually includes an entree, a sidedish. A snack is normally included as well. Plus, you have all the utensils that you need as well. They can either eat these cold or they can warm them up. Most soldiers though will tell you that it’s better to warm it up.

While these are to last a long while, MREs just like everything else do have expiration dates. However, while most foods only last about at most two weeks, these can last up to a few months. So, you see that a soldier always has something to eat. Even though these are issued by the military, there are always military MREs for sale at any surplus store and have come in handy for a lot of times where men and women who are getting ready for deployment as they do spend a lot of time in the field. Most people are under the consumption that they are only there for and then used during deployments which isn’t true at all as you can see.

When will this madness ever end? Every day I get up in the morning turn on the TV and there is one more thing that is going on in Washington that really ticks me off! These people just keep throwing one thing after another at the American people. Well today is no different other than this story hasn’t hit the news yet, and judging by how long it takes for stuff on the internet to make it to the news it will probably be the weekend by time it hits.

I would imagine that none of the news stations will even carry the story except FOX. Well here it is! I am sure you have all seen and remember the videos of the so called civilian security force that Barry was touting that we needed during his campaign stops. Well it looks like he is finally going to get it because it was tucked away inside of the new Obamacare bill that just got passed.

I’m no idiot I know what the Obamacare bill was about and it wasn’t about heath care for all Americans. Come on! Are you serious? Why would a democratic president, congress, and senate want to pass a civilian security force? I mean these are the same people who try and usually do trash our military every chance they get. They are always trying to defund our military and military programs. These are also the same people who are constantly trying to take away our 2nd amendment rights, but yet they feel that we need another civilian security force one that answers and is appointed by the president.

Hmmm….isn’t that what the National Guard is for? Isn’t it’s exact purpose to help out with national emergencies, and to fill in the spots where our regular military needs help? Oh I almost forgot the National Guard is under the control of the states, where was my head.

Well before I get off track here I will let you make up your own mind about the bill and what is going on. You can look it up for yourself by going to http://democrats.senate.gov/reform/patient-protection-affordable-care-act-as-passed.pdf it starts on page 1312. Below is a copy of what it says.

If you are striving to be an elk hunter, you will need to put in a lot of study and practice hours. Elk are herd animals and they can be found in the Rocky Mountains and hilly areas of North America and Europe. Another herd animal that frequents these areas is deer. It is quite common to mistake elk for deer, so be sure to watch closely. You don’t want to be shooting a deer when you only have tags for elk.

The reason elks are hunted is because they have some very tasty meat. The velvet from their antlers is also valuable. Of course, there are also people who hunt just for the fun of it. To become an experienced hunter, you need to know everything about the particular animal you are hunting. This includes behavior, feeding grounds, and appearance. Experienced hunters also know that hunting alone is not a good idea.

It is advised by http://outdooradventuresguide.com/ that you are accompanied by a quality elk hunting guide or at least a buddy. Never hunt alone. Since elk hunting requires a ton of effort and patience, you need to be well prepared. Make sure you bring plenty of water since you don’t know how long you could be out there stalking that trophy elk you see in the distance. Camouflage clothing is also advised since, of course, you do not want to be seen by your prey. Some sturdy boots and a camo cap is also a good idea. However, the one big mistake that a lot of newbie hunters make is they forget to mask their scent.

Elk have a strong sense of smell, so a good scent eliminator is a very good idea. Hunters have the choice of using a bow and arrow or a rifle for hunting elk. Muzzle-loaders offer accurate placement of shots and are generally regarded as the weapon of choice. However, I have seen a really nice elk that was shot down with a bow and arrow, so that method is definitely doable for the experienced hunter.

Of course, you also need to be a good shot if you hope to bring home your trophy. I would advise practicing before you hit the hunting grounds. Experts are able to nail a neck shot which instantly kills the animal and doesn’t damage any valuable meat. This is what you should strive to achieve. Other good places to aim for are the chest and shoulders. Try to avoid head shots, because it is too small and even an expert marksmen has a chance of missing. Also, never shoot at the elk when it is moving. Hunting is about patience. If you get hasty, you have a chance of glancing the elk and letting it escape.

Once you have nailed your trophy, it is time to retrieve your kill. It is advised that you keep your distance for a few hours and follow the blood trail. This gives the animal plenty of time to die. Happy hunting!

While choosing the sleeping bag, it is important to consider the type of insulation fill. Sleeping bags are usually prepared with down fill or synthetic fill. All these types have both advantages as well as disadvantages. However, it is advisable to choose the down filled one.

The reason and the benefits of down sleeping bags are discussed below.

The weight:

When climbing, both your backpack weight and its content’s weight is crucial one. If you carry a lot, no doubt, you will be tired out soon and will require a break. The down sleeping bag could help you by making your pack weigh lighter.

Warmer than the Synthetic filled:

The weight of the synthetic fills cannot match the down fills to warmth proportion. Down filled bags catches lots of air and performs as a superior insulator than all other. The warm sleeping bag is an essential one during your camping in cold. Definitely, everyone expects the composed sleep during night.

The compactness:

While choosing camping gear, the pack space will be the key factor. The down sleeping bag would squeeze more to adopt fewer backpack room than the synthetic filled. This gives you more space for all other things like additional clothes and food.

Even though down sleeping bags are having many advantages, there are some disadvantages also like the flexibility and price.

During moisture conditions, down sleeping bags may be a wrong choice. Because, the wet down sleeping bag become extremely dense, and providing small insulation. To avoid this issue and for making your rainy camping comfortable, choose the down bags that are available made with waterproof material.

Another disadvantage is its cost. Down sleeping bags are expensive while compared with the synthetic filled sleeping bags. Of course, for higher quality bag, you are typically paying when you choose the down bag though. Either way picking the right sleeping bag is just as crucial to your camping trip as it is to bring along the right tent or camping chairs. Take your time and do your research and you will have a sleeping bag that will be both comfortable and will last for many years.
