This is a great video that shows what the 7.62X39 Ak-47 is capable of doing by demonstrating it on a watermelon and then comparing it with what several other rifles can do. I think everyone has their personal choice of rifle for their own personal situation. I prefer a .308 AR-10 style gun as my main rifle with an 7.62X39 SKS or AK-47 as a back up. I know there are a lot of people out there that prefer the .223 AR-15 OVER THE SKS or the AK-47.

In my opinion the AR-10 and the AR-15 are more precision rifles but are a little more finiky and don’t take the abuse as well as the SKS or AK-47. But probably the main reason for having one of these rifles as a back up is the price. You can pick up a decent SKS if you look around for $225 to $300 and 500 rounds of wolf ammunition for $155. So for under $500 you can have a decent semi automatic rifle with a decent amount of ammunition.
