The Truth About The 7.62X39 AK-47
This is a great video that shows what the 7.62X39 Ak-47 is capable of doing by demonstrating it on a watermelon and then comparing it with what several other rifles can do. I think everyone has their personal choice of rifle for their own personal situation. I prefer a .308 AR-10 style gun as my main rifle with an 7.62X39 SKS or AK-47 as a back up. I know there are a lot of people out there that prefer the .223 AR-15 OVER THE SKS or the AK-47.
In my opinion the AR-10 and the AR-15 are more precision rifles but are a little more finiky and don’t take the abuse as well as the SKS or AK-47. But probably the main reason for having one of these rifles as a back up is the price. You can pick up a decent SKS if you look around for $225 to $300 and 500 rounds of wolf ammunition for $155. So for under $500 you can have a decent semi automatic rifle with a decent amount of ammunition, and for those of you who already own an SKS rifle I found this great book on how to convert you semi automatic SKS rifle into a fully automatic SKS rifle. Be for warned though that converting your rifle into a full automatic version is illegal in most states and can carry stiff penalties if you are caught with a fully automatic SKS. These penalties often include large fines and jail time so if you do convert your SKS to full auto make sure you are fully aware of your local and state laws.
