The great part about getting a Concealed Carry Firearm Permit from Utah is that you do not need to be a resident of Utah. You do need to be at least 21 years old, and can’t have a felony conviction on your record. You also can not have been convicted of any crime of violence. You must not have been convicted of any offense involving the use of alcohol or unlawful use of narcotics or controlled substances. No convictions involving any domestic violence. Also you can never have been adjudicated in U.S. courts as mentally incompetent, unless that was reversed or withdrawn. You can not have been convicted of any offense that involves moral turpitude.
If you meet all of the requirements above then you will only need a few more things including the proper application form (available online or by calling (801) 965-4445 ) to the Bureau of Criminal Identification in Salt lake City Utah. You will also need a valid copy of your drivers license along with a passport quality photograph of you for the new permit. Also you will need a fingerprint card taken by a trained fingerprint technician that is legible and completely filled out, and finally you need a weapons familiarity certification from an approved instructor. The instructor does not need to be a Utah resident but must be approved by Utah for the course and also fill out part of the application required showing you completed training.
There will be a few hundred dollars in fees for an FBI background check and for the instruction course. Overall though that seems pretty easy for a valid Concealed Carry Firearm Permit that is valid in 31 states.

That is interesting. Two items of further interest. 1. Look into Indiana. Most states will accept Indiana’s CC permit and they offer a LIFETIME permit! 2. I am sure this is an old argument but a few hundred dollars needed for a constitution right? That’s wrong. When will we start getting issued permits to speak? I know the permit is for a permit to carry CONCEALED but most states have made it virtually illegal to carry unconcealed.
Hell If you have to take the weapon familiarity certification, and then a few hundred dollars on the background check, then that’s already more money and trouble than what it takes here. You can spend $80-$90 here in Kentucky and have the course done in 1 Saturday, Then you just have to wait for it to be mailed to you.
The Florida license is just as well honored.
/sigh
Pretty easy huh? Suppose I wanted to put my pocket knife (or any other personal property) in my jacket: buy knife, put in jacket, no one cares. This is just one more nudge to requiring a license for any gun.
I don’t know what the rules are in Kentucky but can anyone from any state get one of your states concealed carry permits? I think the one thing that most people don’t think of is that there are still states that you cannot get one in Illinois being one and in the states that you can they can be harder than hell, very expensive and time consuming to get. This is just a work around for those people who can’t get one in their state.
Yes it is, I should have put that in the post. Do you know how easy it is to get? Can people from different states get one?
Yes it is unfortunately. I personally believe that you shouldn’t need a license to carry a a gun concealed or otherwise it is our God Given Right as an American, but until then we have to look for loopholes around those who try and control us. Thanks for commenting
Do you all think youre STILL riding around in cowboy hats wiping out the natives??
- ‘you shouldn’t need a license to carry a gun concealed or otherwise it is our God Given Right as an American…’ Really? When did God give you this right, i didnt read it in any holy book.
A gun is essentially a tool for making it a whole lot easier to wipe out another human life… And God is okay with this?
Gun crime is acutely affecting your society and yet you idiots still glorify the second amendment right to bear arms. It may have been valid in 1791 (and a gun was a musket). In this century however, considering the fuck up thats your culture – advocating to have more guns in the hands of the public is astoundingly stupid.
If you people had any sense whatsoever you would realise the remedy is taking guns out of the equation completely or attempting to do so.
But well, you yanks are not known for your intelligence are you, i mean you made George W. your king..
Good luck shooting each other inbreds and sorry for some of the big words in this post.
well good sir, when you call us Yanks, I take it that you are either British or Australian. In either case didn’t both of your countries turn in your guns to the government a few years ago? How is that working out for you? From what I hear crime is up because the criminals with guns don’t have to to worry about you shooting them when they rob or murder you people!
Oh and to make things worse you Europeans still haven’t learned the lessons of two World Wars. The next time you have some crazy dictator knocking at your doors wanting to kill you don’t come crying to the United States for help. At some point you have to learn to take care of yourself or maybe if you are lucky you can try and reason with the person or country that is trying to kill you. After all it worked out pretty good for you when Hitler came a knocking!
Oh and by the way last year the United States had record guns sales if I remember right we were buying around 3 Million firearms every every quarter of last year and we also bought over 1 billion rounds of ammunition last year. And guess what our crime statistics went down across the country.
Well even though you probably will not read this reply to your post I thought I would leave you with a little wisdom from two of our founding fathers even though I don’t think you have the mental ability to comprehend what he means!
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
– Benjamin Franklin (1706 – 1790), Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
– Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826), to Archibald Stuart, 1791
Ya know Sanity, it’s folks like you who are fuckin’ up this world. Please don’t try and push your monumentally ignorant ideals on those who are far more responsible than you’re obvious incapable intelligence level can comprehend. Even the morons know that the minute you remove guns from an area, crime rates double and, in the case of Washington D.C., triple. That’s right, our own nation’s capital decided to pull a gun law and guess what? Crime rates have TRIPLED. How’s that for “sanity”? Please, for fuck’s sake, get a life and read some basic statistical figures before you open that pie hole and speak “insanity”. Don’t even THINK of asking for our help when you get your ass shot off you waste of a human being.
Regarding CCW permits… some states like Fla, Utah, VA, Ariz, PA, NV, TX and others will give permits to non-residents. Requirements vary. i.e. Fla and Va require only clean record and proof of approved training. Ariz, Nev, etc… require training IN that state. Utah requires training from a Utah approved traine even if from another state. Some require a qualifying round of fire in addition to training. Nevada requires qualifying with the semi auto that will be on your permit, yet any revolver is okay. Fees vary greatly as do expiration periods. contrary to the first post, UT is not several hundred dollars, closer to 100 bucks. Maybe less. Fla cost me $117 and VA cost $100. Fla is good for 7 years. Some states though (about 5) wont accept nonres permits. But, between my Florida and when I get the Nevada I will be okay in about 27/28 states. Getting the Utah would add maybe 2 more. Theoretically, if I wanted I could add NH, CT, and ME, and that would give me the most coverage I could get as a New Yorker. Most other states that a non-res could get I wouldn’t be eligible for. One requires you have a CCW from your home state, one, SC requires you own a business or property in the state, another requires you live in an adjacent state, and another requests you show cause for needing one… things like that. Other states I could get permits from would be unnecessary because the ones I have already cover them, like Ariz and Texas. I might be able to get one in Mass, but probably for hunting, or target only…. and thats not really a CCW is it? As an aside, thank god i dont live in a no-issue state but NY ain’t far behind. It is virtually impossible to carry, and for most, prohibitively expensive, and the process takes 5-6 months and that many trips to police headquarters, along with an inch or two of forms, affidavits, referrals, and interviews. I DO have a NYC residence permit for MY premises only… cannot go anywhere but a range and gunsmith as long as it is unloaded, ammo separately boxed. I could take a handgun hunting if I get a Hunting Safety Cert then apply for a Hunting ammendment to my permit. Without that I can’t even take it out of NYC to a range. Of course if I lock it up and head to Delaware or PA, I could carry with my Va/Fla CCWs. Oh yeah… the NYPD charges $340 for 3yrs and 94.25 once for the fingerprints during application. Non-refundable if you’re denied. And to top it off… you can apply once every 3 months for approval to purchase an additional gun which takes 2 months to process and you need a valid reason for the added gun. As a res premises permit holder there is no technical limit on how many I can own, but a Business owner can only have maximum of 2 on their premises. Thats it. I plan on moving to Nev or AZ in the next two years. Don’t even ask the headache it is to cancel my NYC permit and transfer the guns out of state.
The second amendment is my permit.
Thanks for the post Admin. Good information here, keep it up!
